Today the new\u00a0Batman<\/a> film\u00a0The Dark Knight<\/a> hits US cinemas and will be opening in the UK a week later.<\/p>\n It is one of the most eagerly awaited films of the year and so I thought I\u2019d write about the history of Batman on film, how the franchise was rebooted under director Christopher Nolan, the latest film, Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker, how some of the film was shot on IMAX and the viral marketing campaign.<\/p>\n Hopefully the videos, images and links will help you get in the mood for what looks like one of the most interesting blockbusters in quite some time.<\/p>\n I’m seeing it tonight, so I’ll put up some reaction over the next 24 hours, but in the meantime let’s begin with the history of the caped crusader on film.<\/p>\n BATMAN ON FILM<\/strong><\/p>\n The Batman character<\/a> (created by Bob Kane<\/a> in the late 1930s<\/a>) has inspired a TV show<\/a>, an animated series<\/a> and a previous series of movies<\/a>. The first feature film – simply called Batman<\/strong><\/a> – was directed by Tim Burton<\/a> and had Michael Keaton<\/a> as Bruce Wayne\/Batman<\/a> and Jack Nicholson<\/a> as The Joker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
