The biggest movie star in the world plays a depressed, drunken superman who is reviled by Los Angeles because he causes mass destruction when fighting crime. After saving the life of a PR man (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmdetail.com\/archives\/2008\/06\/26\/interview-jason-bateman-and-charlize-theron-on-hancock\/\">Justin Bateman<\/a>) he is persuaded to change his ways and become a proper hero but complications ensue when his past catches up with him. A landmark film of the early 1970s, it is\u00a0the story of two\u00a0<a title=\"New York City\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/New_York_City\">New York City<\/a>\u00a0policemen trying to intercept a\u00a0<a title=\"Heroin\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Heroin\">heroin<\/a>\u00a0shipment coming in from\u00a0<a title=\"France\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/France\">France<\/a>. Directed by\u00a0<a title=\"William Friedkin\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Friedkin\">William Friedkin<\/a>, it stars\u00a0<a title=\"Gene Hackman\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gene_Hackman\">Gene Hackman<\/a>\u00a0(as\u00a0detective\u00a0<a title=\"Jimmy &quot;Popeye&quot; Doyle\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jimmy_%22Popeye%22_Doyle\">Jimmy &#8220;Popeye&#8221; Doyle<\/a>),\u00a0<a title=\"Fernando Rey\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fernando_Rey\">Fernando Rey<\/a>\u00a0(as French heroin smuggler Alain Charnier) and\u00a0<a title=\"Roy Scheider\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Roy_Scheider\">Roy Scheider<\/a>\u00a0(as Jimmy&#8217;s partner Buddy &#8220;Cloudy&#8221; Russo). It also features\u00a0<a title=\"Eddie Egan\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eddie_Egan\">Eddie Egan<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"Sonny Grosso\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sonny_Grosso\">Sonny &#8220;Cloudy&#8221;
